Shelby King

Associate Justice Deputy

Shelby is an Associate Justice Deputy in Supervisor Kuehl’s Office. She recently graduated from UCLA with her law degree and Master of Public Policy. She specialized in Public Interest Law and Policy and Critical Race Studies. During graduate school, Shelby helped to improve bail hearings in a public defender’s office, evaluated problem-solving courts with the National Center for State Courts, updated a pretrial services office, conducted legal research in Mental Health Court, and wrote legislation and contract amendments at the Office of Legislative Counsel. Her Master’s thesis, entitled “Bail Reform in California,” was a group policy project conducted for California Assemblymember Rob Bonta’s Office that compared the status quo bail system to the proposed policies in SB 10.

Shelby is also a graduate of Occidental College, earning her BA in Economics with an emphasis in Public Policy. She participated in the Judicial Administration Capital Fellows Program before graduate school where she worked in court administration while learning about California’s Judicial Branch.

Outside of work, Shelby enjoys running and photography. She is also passionate about directing her nonprofit, Tucson Summer Music, which provides free music education to children from low-income families.
