At the February 8 meeting, I was honored to be re-elected as Chair of the First 5 Board of Commissioners. I look forward to continuing my service on the Board as we continue to build our partnerships with County agencies, philanthropic funders, and other invested local and community leaders. To this end, the Board of Commissioners approved the extension of a strategic partnership with California Community Foundation to support facilitation of the Los Angeles County Perinatal and Early Childhood Home Visitation Consortium (the Consortium), which includes LA Best Babies Network, the LA County Department of Public Health (LACDPH)/Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health Division, and The LA Partnership for Early Childhood Investment.
First 5 LA has supported the Consortium since 2015 to convene home visiting providers, leaders, and advocates in order to improve research and development, public policy and advocacy, service delivery systems, and community capacity building efforts for home visiting programs across the County. The strategic partnership will allow First 5 LA to maintain active participation on the working group, increase their visibility at the countywide level, strengthen their partnership with DPH and other County agencies, and further establish their role in the home visiting field. This, in turn, will strengthen their ability to cultivate partnerships and funding to sustain future efforts.
These and other innovative partnerships help First 5 LA work collaboratively toward a shared agenda of promoting children’s healthy development, and strengthens families by increasing protective factors, and improving the capacity of health and early care providers to engage parents and caregivers in supporting their child’s development so they grow up healthy, safe and ready to learn.
