An astounding 195 animals were adopted as pets into their “fur-ever” homes at the Clear the Shelters event, a nationwide pet adoption campaign in which hundreds of shelters across the country participate. In LA, events are locally organized and hosted by Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control, in partnership with NBC4.
NBC and Telemundo partner with shelters nationwide to organize Clear the Shelters, resulting in thousands of pet adoptions across the country, from New York to Chicago and all the way to the West Coast. This year, over one hundred shelters participated in Southern California alone! Since 2015, Clear the Shelters has helped 250,000 pets find forever homes.
All pets adopted from La County Animal Care Centers are vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and microchipped. On the weekend of Clear the Shelters, dog adoption fees are reduced to $20 for dogs 4 years and younger and fees are completely waived for dogs 5 years and older. Every single pet that is adopted allows our shelter staff to work with and prepare the next pet for potential adoption. That means in addition to finding your new best friend, you can save two lives by opening up a space for another animal in need.
