The City of Los Angeles (City) and County of Los Angeles (County) are working together to explore the feasibility of redeveloping the West Los Angeles Civic Center on Santa Monica Blvd., between Corinth Ave and Butler Ave.
The City and County previously hosted a virtual meeting to share a preview of the top development proposals with the community on Wednesday, October 14, 2020. Community members participated in a survey to provide feedback regarding both proposals.
Based on input from staff and the community, the development teams submitted refined development proposals to enhance feasibility and address community feedback.
Based on these refined proposals, a formal recommendation has been made for the City and County to proceed with exclusive negotiations with the development team led by AvalonBay and Abode Communities.
Now that a formal recommendation has been made for the development team led by AvalonBay and Abode Communities, the City and County look forward to more robust community input opportunities in the upcoming months.
The next step in our project approval will be the concurrent consideration from the Los Angeles City Council and Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors of the recommendation to enter into separate Exclusive Negotiating Agreements (ENAs) with the AvalonBay and Abode Communities development team. This process should be completed in March 2021.
Once the City and County have approved entering into an ENA, the next step will be a comprehensive community engagement strategy that will include a number of invitations for community input as we start the predevelopment process and look to actively design the project and seek entitlements. We look forward to your participation as we view this project as a long-term community asset that will benefit its residents, workers, and nearby neighbors. See below for the conceptual design and project summary of the recommended proposal. We appreciate your ongoing engagement with this very important West Los Angeles project. We look forward to hearing from you and working with you in the coming months.
