Sherry Gold

Justice Deputy

Sherry Gold joins the Board of Supervisors 3rd district team having been a criminal attorney for almost four decades.

She had been with the Los Angeles County Alternate Public Defender’s Office since 1995. As a senior trial deputy for the APD, Ms. Gold spent the last 13 years representing youth in the Juvenile Mental Health Court, the first full-time Juvenile Court trained in mental health advocacy. During this same period, Ms. Gold was also assigned numerous homicide cases involving youth in adult court and two special circumstance murder cases. Ms. Gold’s extensive experience in the field of juvenile justice enabled her to represent the Alternate Public Defender’s Office on multiple committees designed to keep abreast of new proposals, protocols, and practices which led to effective and caring services for juveniles.

Prior to joining the Alternate Public Defender’s Office, Ms. Gold had worked as a Los Angeles County deputy Public Defender in juvenile and adult courts, a juvenile panel attorney in Inglewood, and as a deputy Los Angeles City Attorney. Her excellent work as a panel attorney in the Thurgood Marshall Inglewood Juvenile Courthouse was featured in Pulitzer Prize winner Edward Humes’ book “No Matter How Loud I Shout.”

As Justice Deputy, Ms. Gold is responsible for all Public Safety and Justice issues including but not limited to the Sheriff Department, Fire Department, Probation, District Attorney, Public Defender, Alternate Public Defender, Courts, Coroner and Lifeguards.

Ms. Gold is the proud mother of Samantha, a Child Development and Disability specialist, and Andrew, the Director of Social Justice at Temple Israel in Boston.
